  1. WinU for Windows 95
  2.  
  3. Windows 95 is great, but it's not very secure.  How can parents control 
  4. which programs their children use?  How can stores, schools, and libraries 
  5. allow their computers to be used by the public, yet prevent people from 
  6. changing the configuration of complex computer systems?  How can 
  7. businesses let employees use the software they need to do their jobs, yet 
  8. prevent them from accessing or installing other programs?  How can anybody 
  9. keep a log of which programs were run, by who, and for how long?

  50. Installing WinU

  52. To install WinU, run the program install.exe that comes with WinU.  
  53. It will ask you the folder you would like to install into, the Start 
  54. button group name you prefer, and whether you'd like WinU to run at 
  55. startup.  WinU will not install anything to any folder other than the 
  56. one you specify.  It will not change any system files other than the 
  57. Registry (per Microsoft standards).  If you choose to uninstall, 
  58. simply run the uninstaller program.

  75. In order to use WinU, you must first install Dial-Up Networking.  This is 
  76. a Windows 95 component.  It comes with the operating system.  WinU uses 
  77. the features of Dial-Up Networking to track modem-using applications.

  79. To install up Dial-Up Networking, open the My Computer icon.  Then open 
  80. Control Panel.  Then open Add/Remove Programs.  Then select the Windows 
  81. Setup tab.  The third item in the Windows Setup tab is Communications.  
  82. Double-click on Communications and a new window will appear.  The first 
  83. entry is Dial-Up Networking.  If this is unchecked, check it and click OK.  
  84. Keep clicking OK all the way back out.

  90. Uninstalling WinU

  92. WinU includes an "uninstall" component.  When you install WinU, the 
  93. uninstaller is added to WinU's icons on the Start menu as well as to the 
  94. usual "Add/Remove Programs" list.  To uninstall, run the uninstaller.
